the cycle repeats
on the winds of wyrd:
born into this
born of this
renewed
rejuvenated
patterns upon patterns
souls upon souls
songs upon songs --
we will live again

Note: For the purposes of these runepoems, I randomly select three runes and consider the meanings of each rune as I interpret and understand them based on a number of different resources, which may or may not be in alignment with accepted interpretations. I am a rune enthusiast, not an expert or scholar. These “runecasts” are not intended to be treated as divinatory, although there are elements of personal alchemy and shamanic practice in the crafting of each poem.

the river of wyrd runs through me
like a horse riding hard
winds of fate tug my hair
pulling, too, at you
drawing concordant towards
a wish waiting at
the edge of the world

in the shadows behind closed eyes
i can see the wheel turning
clockwork precision
seeds sown in ice
to melt into new bounties
will the harvest be blood or prosperity?

time will tell

will o' wisps beckon
a heavy hand on my shoulder
breathing in my ear
with a whisper like gravel
your path, right now, is forward
i turn to see who speaks
seeing only black feathers
drift to the ground

ansuz

“A god”, communication, meaning, breath, inspiration, transformation, word power, acquisition of wisdom, ecstatic experiences

Murk: misunderstandings, manipulation by others, bad advice, hypocrisy, foolishness

pertho

Literal meaning unknown, prophecy, chance, living with unknowns, perception of ørlǫg and wyrd, patterns, luck, play

Murk: psychological or emotional addictions, delusion, fantasy, ignoring signals, joylessness

raidho

“Ride”, journey, the path, justice, right direction, logic and rationality, inner compass, intuition, protection for travelers, initiating action

Murk: rigidity, crisis, restlessness, irrational thinking, obsession with control, inaction, straying from the path

Argument: Ever evolving this process, I have decided that three is a sacred number for runes (as is nine) and have expanded the number of runes to include in my exploration. Please do not confuse this for a wyrd reading, there is no divination implied in these rune explorations. However, there is always shamanic and internal alchemy being explored.

time to cool the passions
to see into the patterns
knowing one can never
see it all
accepting that wyrd
is always in the mists
raising a torch
casts new places
into shadows

pertho: literal meaning unknown, prophecy, chance, living with unknowns, perception of ørlǫg and wyrd, patterns, luck, play; murk: psychological or emotional addictions, delusion, fantasy

kenaz: “torch”, knowledge, enlightenment, cunning, acquisition of knowledge, transformation, illumination, female occult secrets; murk: disease, ignorance, lack of humility, arrogance, elitism

isa: “ice”, self, focus, stillness, unity, power over wights and emotional outbursts, presence; murk: ego, self-centered, inability to change, blindness, over-controlling, authoritarianism, superficial desire

Argument: Every evolving this process, I have decided that three is a sacred number for runes (as is nine) and have expanded the number of runes to include in my exploration. Please do not confuse this for a wyrd reading, there is no divination implied in these rune explorations. However, there is always shamanic and internal alchemy being explored.

lifting the veil
from cloud-covered eyes
listening to messages
beyond all time
the web stretches out
embracing the unknowing
kissing the dice
before rolling...

algiz: “elk”, protection, divine plan, connections, awakenings, spirituality, fearlessness, listening, hidden danger, being tested, unlocking the higher self, communication with the other worlds

pertho: prophecy, chance, psychological or emotional addictions, delusion, fantasy, living with unknowns, perception of wyrd, patterns, luck, play

Note: There is no divinatory question being considered, but merely an investigation into the relationships the runes might suggest as they come together. For these exercises, I am starting now to consider the murkstave implications from the drawing, but focusing primarily on the core concepts. I am more intent on learning the primary meanings and making connections via wyrd at this time.

again, sits ørlög
with that devil's grin
"are you ready for
this journey, friend?"

raidho: a journey, following intuition and inner compass, the path, following the heart

pertho: favorable circumstances, understanding of wyrd, chance, increased favorable odds

Note: For the purposes of these pieces, I am drawing exactly two runes each day, reviewing their suggested interpretations from several sources (listed above for each) in an attempt to meditate on their potential meanings as they might relate to each other. There is no divinatory question being considered, but merely an investigation into the relationships the runes might suggest as they come together. For these exercises, I am not considering the murkstave implications from the drawing, but focusing exclusively on the core concepts. At a later date I may consider the implications presented by a reversed rune — possibly when I start casting the runes in a more traditional way — but I am more intent on learning the primary meanings and making connections via wyrd at this time.
