the past is stone and ice
yet, the wheel still turns
balance will prevail
quiet waiting holds
its own rewards
the bonds hold firm and
a reckoning comes with
the changing of winds

Note: For the purposes of these runepoems, I randomly select three runes and consider the meanings of each rune as I interpret and understand them based on a number of different resources, which may or may not be in alignment with accepted interpretations. I am a rune enthusiast, not an expert or scholar. These “runecasts” are not intended to be treated as divinatory, although there are elements of personal alchemy and shamanic practice in the crafting of each poem.

the wheel keeps turning
old memories orient the path
but are ultimately deadwood
as with all thing serving
their purpose
clear away the path of the old
to reveal those treasures
left buried by the vagaries
of time

For today’s rune-inspired poem, I was asked in the comments from yesterday’s poem by Harshi to include a rune of their choosing in my random selection of runes meant to inspire today’s poem. They randomly chose tiwaz (ᛏ) as their rune and I drew from lots the other two.

ørlǫg is sometimes
too set to break &
wyrd already writ as a result
cycles upon cycles
lead to unions & bonds
some trials
lead to wyrd's eventual
rewards

the cycle repeats
on the winds of wyrd:
born into this
born of this
renewed
rejuvenated
patterns upon patterns
souls upon souls
songs upon songs --
we will live again

in the shadows behind closed eyes
i can see the wheel turning
clockwork precision
seeds sown in ice
to melt into new bounties
will the harvest be blood or prosperity?

time will tell

rune trios: jera | gebo | ansuz

i am ever the fool
primed to walk the path
but find the first step hardest
this time
i gift myself to the
turning of the wheel
a wayfarer cloaked in black

jera

“Year”, cycles, progress, plenty, peace, lasting change, time, understanding the cyclic nature of the universe, patience

Murk: conflict, regression, repetition, stagnation, wrong timing, rushing, conflict

gebo

“Gift”, exchange, generosity, reciprocation, hospitality, honor, mystic union, oaths, favors

Murk: greed, dishonesty, over-sacrifice, bad guest, disloyalty, uneven exchange

ansuz

“A god”, communication, meaning, breath, inspiration, transformation, word power, acquisition of wisdom, ecstatic experiences

Murk: misunderstandings, manipulation by others, bad advice, hypocrisy, foolishness

Argument: Ever evolving this process, I have decided that three is a sacred number for runes (as is nine) and have expanded the number of runes to include in my exploration. Please do not confuse this for a wyrd reading, there is no divination implied in these rune explorations. However, there is always shamanic and internal alchemy being explored.

sensing the Path
fumbling feet seeking
the dirt to ground
breathing harmonized
with the true mother
to walk in beauty

jera: “year”, cycles, progress, plenty, peace, lasting change; murk: conflict, regression

raidho: “ride”, journey, the path, justice, right direction, logic and rationality; murk: rigidity, crisis, restlessness, irrational thinking

Note: There is no divinatory question being considered, but merely an investigation into the relationships the runes might suggest as they come together. For these exercises, I am starting now to consider the murkstave implications from the drawing, but focusing primarily on the core concepts. I am more intent on learning the primary meanings and making connections via wyrd at this time.

tides ebb and flow:
though we seem to drown
time and again
wyrd is not merely
tempering steel --
it is ascension, too

jera: realization of the cyclic nature of the multiverse, patience, plenty, peace, “this too shall pass”

othala: inheritance, prosperity, freedom, home, paradise, utopia, contentment, harvest

Note: There is no divinatory question being considered, but merely an investigation into the relationships the runes might suggest as they come together. For these exercises, I am not considering the murkstave implications from the drawing, but focusing exclusively on the core concepts. At a later date I may consider the implications presented by a reversed rune — possibly when I start casting the runes in a more traditional way — but I am more intent on learning the primary meanings and making connections via wyrd at this time.

spiral dancing
through time, space
potential arising
we will stretch together
to reach the stars
when they align
again

mannaz: mind and memory, intelligence, divinity in self, mind’s eye, self-actualization

jera: growth solstice, the power of time, cyclic nature, patience

Note: For the purposes of these pieces, I am drawing exactly two runes each day, reviewing their suggested interpretations from several sources (listed above for each) in an attempt to meditate on their potential meanings as they might relate to each other. There is no divinatory question being considered, but merely an investigation into the relationships the runes might suggest as they come together. For these exercises, I am not considering the murkstave implications from the drawing, but focusing exclusively on the core concepts.
