For today’s rune-inspired poem, I was asked in the comments from yesterday’s poem by Harshi to include a rune of their choosing in my random selection of runes meant to inspire today’s poem. They randomly chose tiwaz (ᛏ) as their rune and I drew from lots the other two.

ørlǫg is sometimes
too set to break &
wyrd already writ as a result
cycles upon cycles
lead to unions & bonds
some trials
lead to wyrd's eventual
rewards

Note: For the purposes of these runepoems, I randomly select three runes and consider the meanings of each rune as I interpret and understand them based on a number of different resources, which may or may not be in alignment with accepted interpretations. I am a rune enthusiast, not an expert or scholar. These “runecasts” are not intended to be treated as divinatory, although there are elements of personal alchemy and shamanic practice in the crafting of each poem.

in the shadows behind closed eyes
i can see the wheel turning
clockwork precision
seeds sown in ice
to melt into new bounties
will the harvest be blood or prosperity?

time will tell

rune trios: ehwaz | kenaz | hagalaz

blood washing blood
at the river ford
a never-ending festering wound
time to move
leave the old behind
or be forced to follow wyrd
anyway

ehwaz

“Horse”; Sound: “e” as in “equity”

Trust, harmony, a friend, cooperation, perception of subtle cues, speed, animal bonding, movement, restlessness, symbiosis, setting personal boundaries/limits

Murk: betrayal, enemies, mistrust, indecisiveness, “stuck”, boundaries not respected, stagnation

kenaz

“Torch”/”flame”; Sound: “k” as in “candle”

Knowledge, enlightenment, cunning, acquisition of knowledge, transformation, illumination, female occult secrets, warmth, friendship, unity, “brightstave”

Murk: disease, ignorance, lack of humility, arrogance, elitism, health issues, ulcers, inflammation, fever

hagalaz

“Hail”/”Disruption”; Sound: “h” as in “hail”

Change and growth for long term, inner harmony, correction, evolutionary progress, transformation, inevitability of wyrd, representation of the dark hag (e.g., the crone, Cailleach), sudden change

Murk: crisis, radical change, disruption, unavoidable trial, the shadow, discomfort, catastrophe

Argument: Ever evolving this process, I have decided that three is a sacred number for runes (as is nine) and have expanded the number of runes to include in my exploration. Please do not confuse this for a wyrd reading, there is no divination implied in these rune explorations. However, there is always shamanic and internal alchemy being explored.

frozen needles pierce
my pink skin
sowing hard seeds within
i give my faith in
a rising sun cresting
to guide me to
balance, health and whole

sowilo

“Sun”, guidance, revelation, the whole, action, life force, spiritual will, health

Murk: bad advice, misleading success, inaction, darkness, stagnation, fragmentation

tiwaz

“Tyr” (the god), justice, faith and loyalty, principles, honesty, self-sacrifice, balance, chaos comes to order

Murk: injustice, imbalance, mendacity, zealous behavior, disloyalty

hagalaz

“Hail”, change and growth for long term, inner harmony, correction, evolutionary progress, transformation, inevitability of wyrd

Murk: crisis, radical change, disruption, unavoidable trial, the shadow, discomfort, catastrophe

handfasting
and oaths recalled

i now submit:
letting hailstorms
hammer me into shape
for you

gebo: “gift”, exchange, sexual/mystical union, oaths, equilibrium, self-sacrifice, divine vision, obligations, giving oneself from within

hagalaz: “hail”, radical change, acceptance, surrender, transformation, spiritual awakening through crisis, subconscious “baggage” (Jungian “shadow”) removal, confrontation with past patterns

Note: There is no divinatory question being considered, but merely an investigation into the relationships the runes might suggest as they come together. For these exercises, I am not considering the murkstave implications from the drawing, but focusing exclusively on the core concepts. At a later date I may consider the implications presented by a reversed rune — possibly when I start casting the runes in a more traditional way — but I am more intent on learning the primary meanings and making connections via wyrd at this time.
