An ode to a grasshopper*

I was hit with several bits of bad news this past week. It made me sit down and take inventory of myself and I have some tough rows to hoe for a while if I want to avoid death, dismemberment, and activities akin to what poor Alex of Clockwork Orange had forced upon him in my relatively near future, me droogs.

But! Let us not be so dolorous and grim in this post! Nay, cast off the grumpkins and usher in the grimalkin!

Did you know that I am a published author? If not, it is because I often forget that factoid myself and fail to remind both of us of the reality presented by such a small sentence: I. am. a. published. writer.

If you want to support an independent writer who’s had a rough week and put a big-assed grin on his face, consider buying my book from your favorite online bookseller, or click one of the links on the promotional page I have somewhere in the ether and connected to this site for galdr: thought+memory. It would make me super happy if you did, even more so if you told me you did and that you liked it. Here, even.

It would surely make up for the craptastick waterfall of “everything is not awesome” news. Just… think about it, ‘kay?

*This title is a quote from Jim Morrison when the Doors played the Hollywood Bowl. I had the album on bootleg vinyl and I can’t seem to stop saying it when I can’t think of anything else to say. It’s along the lines of my shouting “ALBATROSS!” for no apparent reason other than it is potentially illegal to shout “theater” in a crowded fire… or so I am told.

Hey! I have a published book!

In case it wasn’t abundantly clear by now, I have a small book of poetry published by Raw Earth Ink, available for purchase since early April called galdr: thought+memory.

It would do me a world of good if you could consider purchasing said book and saying out loud all kinds of fabulous things (that may or may not be your real thoughts about it) about the darned thing so other people might consider purchasing my leetle book. If you’re the kind of person who needs more details, you can hop on over to the book’s page on this site and maybe find a few links where you might find it for purchase. Or, you could hop on over to lulu from this post and make a sad old poet smile.

I look forward to hearing what you think about it.

galdr: thought+memory can be purchased at 15% off the cover price with discount code via lulu until May 6. If you are considering purchasing a copy of my book, this is an excellent opportunity to save a little cash while doing so.

If, by chance, you have already picked up a copy of galdr, you can apply the discount to the other authors that Raw Earth Ink publishes, so check out the suggestions on Tara’s blog for other talented writers she has helped publish.

The discount code is REACHOUT15. Let me know if you purchase any of the books on offer (especially if it is mine, wink wink).

Amazon… pulled their collective heads out of their rectum? WTAF?

After nearly a month of being oblivious, Amazon decided they wanted to make some money on me after all!

Galdr is the correct price for at least the next five minutes. Use your Prime to buy one pronto before they realize they corrected their mistake and switch it to some idiotic price $4 more than literally any other vendor.

Up the Amazon without a paddle

Amazon can’t quite seem to get their head out of their asses. Instead, they seem to burrow in deeper.

“galdr” was originally priced at $13.85 USD, nearly $4 USD more than anyone else was selling it for. Then, they partially corrected the listing and offered it at the correct price if you selected “other sellers” than the landing page, and dropped the landing page to $13.50 USD. Today, it is still $13.50 on the landing page, but the “other sellers” at the correct pricing has been removed.

Granted, from what I understand, pricing changes generally switch over on Fridays, and this might be an overall correction that resolves itself for tomorrow but, good gods, I submitted a ticket myself today on the product page indicating that other retailers were selling this for much less than listed and they were losing sales — this coming from the author on record. I’m sure the bots will ignore me, as will any humans who barely speak or read English (everything is offshored these days and the quality control is… lacking… anymore), although it really should fall under price-matching and be stupid-simple.

As a customer, I generally like Amazon because I can get things that I’d never find locally at prices that are acceptable. As an author, however, I am weary of these shenanigans and can see why some writers may elect to not sell through them.

If you are currently thinking of buying the book, I recommend using (link on the right) or almost anyone aside from Amazon until they do some unclogging of their rectums.

galdr, avoided poli, ‘shrooms & cereal, erm, serials

So yeah. Update time, I expect.

If you’ve been wondering at my radio silence with the book and all, it is because I really am hoping that Amazon is fixing the pricing on the book, which seems to be in the works, kinda, sorta. I checked today and galdr is still listed at about $4 USD higher than all other sellers. HOWEVER, there is a “not in stock, sold by Amazon” listing that showed up under other options at the correct price (as opposed to the seller being “The Book Depository”, a UK-based subsidiary of Amazon). We were told that the listing corrections would happen on Fridays, so… fingers crossed this is fixed and I can be a little more pushy about the book (but not too pushy, if you know me). If you are interested, the lulu option is a great way for getting the book at the intended price.

Tarot reasons, birth anniversaries, zombies

I guess I didn’t explain the sudden appearance of single tarot cards yesterday and today. I probably should do that, eh?

I’m approaching my birthday within the next week. I don’t give details on the exact date, but I have had a “tradition”, if two years is enough to establish a tradition, of drawing a single tarot card for several days around my birthday. I don’t know that I would consider it divinatory in nature — let’s just day I do so as an act of personal enquiry into my spiritual inventory. Was that oblique enough? Perhaps.

Hey everyone, we’re finally here. Well, I am anyway.

galdr release date

©2022 Michael Raven

I’m still feeling a little off-center because of some of this, it seems a little surreal still to me to see everything come together and all. However, I wanted to follow through with several people who have asked about it now that I have a release date for galdr by posting something now that we’ve nailed it all down.

As you can see, the official release is scheduled for next Wednesday, 30 March 2022. I’ll post several links on that day if you are interested in supporting me by purchasing a copy. If something changes, I’ll let you know, but I don’t expect anything to happen between now and then that would alter the release date.

Thanks, everyone, who helped make this a reality — if even it was only in believing in me.
