i have forgotten
all the words i
used to know
splintered memories
like when you run
out of stairs and
step down too hard
expecting the world
to fall away away
fear drapes its mantle
over shoulders stiff
with age, what if
i forget my name?
I think it’s part of aging…we start fearing if it’s normal memory loss or something else. I cared for my grandmother with Alzheimer’s and I know first hand how scary it can be.

My great grandmother was afflicted and lived with us as kids. It was sad to watch. I was too young to help out much, but it is a real concern for me as I age. That said, hers didn’t kick in until she was well into her 70s, so I have some time still.
