barbed wire mend

something inside me
died back then
broken once too many
i think

cello-tape yellow
fractured and dry
given to brittle dust
over long years
struggles to keep that
something together

but

only barbed wire
really holds the
mend

Excellent imagery, Michael. Experience teaches us only to build tougher barricades – question is are they to hold others out or to keep ourselves in?
