The alley behind my house growing up had a shallow gutter that had a combo of snowmelt, ice and rocks. I’d paint toothpicks different colors and race them in the snowmelt every spring. Miss those days.

That’s awesome! I grew up out in the wilds of Alaska and right behind the house were two little springs of fresh delicious water. They went down the hill and emptied into the river, which was the backside of the property. The springs were the best to play in, but no low-and-slow places for Pooh-sticks. But I can remember plenty of winters going down and getting water from it when the pipes froze… which they did every winter.
