and nothing hurt/

ending the day
in melancholy
wanting not wanting
seeing not seeing
wishing not wishing
moments becoming
unstuck in time
while the bird outside
the window asks
in the rime descending
rivers of whither
asking for another
song for the old man
now dying
the riverboat unmoored
shifting with currents
by the slipstream
flux of forgotten
memento mori

at least everything was
beautiful as the
stars dashed themselves
into the snow
heartache still sour
on the tongue
fading into

skinwalk years/

in another dream
i kissed winter grey skies
tumbled and fell
dodging your
blood red mouth
closing on virgin snow
a feast of friends
bone sharp white
howling spells
into growing twilight

this is not heresy:
skinwalk, my love
winter warms
hearthstone fire
burning naked

Housekeeping: end of 2021

Looks like it’s time to think about retiring that “reusable block” in the block editor and make another with 2022 in mind for the copyright. You know, I don’t think I’ll miss that quick-block all that much; 2021 was not my favorite year on record by a long shot and, while I usually refrain from bashing a year by the number assigned to it, 2021 was pretty much a stinker on almost every front. So, I feel entitled to give it the middle finger to before turning on my heel and walking on. If everything goes well, it’ll be done like an action movie star, a slight smirk on my face as I step into the next year and everything explodes behind me. And, just to make it more metal, I won’t look backwards, I don’t think.

No, this isn’t going to be a “reflection on 2021” post. There are plenty of those around for the looking at today. No… this post will likely be much more inane and filled with the typical useless rubbish.

runepoem | 31 dec 2021

transformation cusp
coming on as the cold winter wind
i will ravenwalk like úlfheðnar
sacrifice the self to wilderness

Note: For the purposes of these runepoems, I randomly select three runes and consider the meanings of each rune as I interpret and understand them based on a number of different resources, which may or may not be in alignment with accepted interpretations. I am a rune enthusiast, not an expert or scholar. These “runecasts” are not intended to be treated as divinatory, although there are elements of personal alchemy and shamanic practice in the crafting of each poem.

[reblog] In a Perfect World — Krista Marson

I know a number of people who work in health care and some, specifically, in hospitals. Krista is echoing much of the sentiment that I’ve been hearing from a number of those people with respect to Covid19, especially the two newest variants, articulating her feelings as an internal dialog in this case. Her post hit stuck a nerve with me and I think it is important to get the perspective of people who deal with this day in and day out, instead of those talking heads on the idiot box. Take a moment out of your day and read what she has to say about her thoughts and frustrations on the manner.

Lately, I’ve been writing articles about art and history because those are the topics I am interested in. I like to pretend that I am living in a normal world, so writing such articles is my way of pretending that the world is completely sane. Deep down, my soul is screaming that I am deluding […]

Futhark update: wunjo added; Freyr’s aett complete

©2021 Michael Raven

I’ve revised my interpretations of wunjo (ᚹ) based on additional reference material, inner reflection, and meditation. Rune poems and other writing referencing this rune moving forward will use the revised interpretations.

Additionally, wunjo completes the first of three aetts (families/clans) of runes, Freyr’s aett.

I’ve been relatively happy with how this reworking of Elder Futhark interpretations has been going, as I attempt to present them in a non-dualistic framework. While there are potentially “negative” interpretations included (and expect more with Hagal’s aett), I have endeavored to leave those readings to the person looking at these pages. Please let me know, as always if you find something amiss or missing in these pages (including something you’d like to see included). I have decided against prose interpretations and explanations, as too likely to reflect my own personal biases than to accurately reflect the various meanings for each rune. Other than that, I am interested in developing these tools further and can add information, if it will help someone else.

Once all runes have be reworked, I will migrate the old interpretations to the archive to maintain link integrity and for historical references.
