We're setting sail to the place on the map From which no one has ever returned Drawn by the promise of the joker and the fool By the light of the crosses that burned Drawn by the promise of the women and the lace And the gold and the cotton and pearls It's the place where they keep all the darkness you need You sail away from the light of the world on this trip
I’m in a Waterboys mood today.
No, this isn’t the Waterboys, but Karl Wallinger is one of the original members of the band (keyboardist) prior to leaving for World Party, which is essentially a solo act in the studio. It was after he left that the Waterboys turned away from their “Big Music” sound, which is probably my favorite sound. While Mike Scott was successful in capturing some of the British Isles folk sound and did a decent try at “rock”, I always felt their “Wall of Sound” era was their strongest.
You can hear some of that bigger, lusher sound in this song — which is just a precursor to my shifting over to A Pagan Place right about… now.
I much prefer Ship of Fools and world Party to Waterboys TMO
