I’m liking where an outline I’m working on for a story is heading. It feels pretty “right”.
Core concept: Someone is killed accidentally and the lover has a hard time accepting the justice of that death, so they glom onto the rumor that there are ways to beat even death and undertake a mission to bring their dead love back from the land of the dead.
They are accompanied by a mage in a world where magic is mostly dead and dying and his daughter, another accident victim who has lost her mind when she was in the wrong place at the wrong time during one of his “experiments” trying to increase the amount of magic available to him. She is the wise idiot and he arrogant seeker of “more”.
They are also accompanied by someone attuned to nature and animals, and that person’s father, who (unlike the mage), has common-sense wisdom at his disposal (and a helping hand that will I’ll not disclose here).
The characters and outline are being helped along by a tool I’m using that gives me some random, but archetypical, premise to help inspire what I am developing. It should be interesting to see if I can move beyond just playing around and into something that actually ends up finished.
