      • As I understand it, there was a local back in the day, a lawyer guy, who called the area Minnehaha because it means laughing water or laughing waterfall. It’s right next to the Spokane River and there are falls all along there.

        • I think the “laughing” part is a Longfellow invention. ‘Minne” is “water” in Lakota and Dakota (hence, Minnesota, land of waters). I had to check on the “haha” and it translates to “curling” or “falling” in the two complementary languages, so it means what it is in the source location, a waterfall.

          I need to brush up on my Lakota…
